What if the most important questions you'll ever ask yourself aren't:

"What should I do next?"

"What goal should I pursue?"

"What strategy should I follow?"

What if they're much simpler than that?

What if they're:

How do I want to live?

How do I want to lead?

How do I want to feel?

How do I want to love?

In this raw and unedited episode of Dr. Tami Talks, I explore a truth that has been sitting heavily on my heart:

Life ends.

Not as a morbid realization.

As a clarifying one.

Because when we remember that this human experience is finite, something powerful happens.

We stop asking what we have to do.

And we start asking who we want to be.

This conversation explores self-leadership, nervous system stability, emotional set points, burnout, conscious creation, and the extraordinary influence we have over the lives we are creating.

Most importantly, it is an invitation to stop living by default and start living by design.

Because the future isn't created by accident.

It is created by the person who is willing to reclaim authorship of their life.

The person who is willing to lead themselves intentionally.

To love intentionally.

To live intentionally.

And maybe...

you have more influence over what happens next than you've been taught to believe.

Hello, and welcome to another episode of Dr. Tami Talks. I'm your host, Dr. Tami. We're in season two. We're raw, we're unedited, we're unfiltered. Who knows where this will take us? I'm so glad you are here, um, sharing this space with me. I have something on my heart, I have something on my mind that I wanna talk about. And, um, it's deep. If you know me, uh, I do deep. I go deep. We go deep. And, uh, that is really, um, my favorite place to be. I don't really do surface very well. Um, and so if you're here sharing space with me, I just, like, from my heart want to say thank you, because I think it is a rare, special, high caliber kind of person who actually digs this. You're kind of not normal. I don't attract, like, the normal types, quote-unquote. I attract those, I bring in those, I align with those who have really big hearts, who have really big ambitions in this life, and who have maybe experienced burnout, are already exper- are actively in burnout right now, or they've had a taste of it and they don't wanna go back, right? We are special in the most important of ways, right? And I wanted us to have this conversation today because this is one of the things... It, it's really easy for us, like, kind of like big goal people, big vision people, ambitious souls, to get caught up in doing the things, in doing life, in kind of working on our checklist, working on the to-do list, working on the goals, like working our way forward. And that is fun. I mean, that is why we do it, because there is a joy in it. And there is this thing that can happen where we allow, like, that thing to be bigger than it was ever meant to be. And there was something that has come up in my life recently where multiple people in my family have been facing conditions, circumstances, diagnoses, events that have me so acutely aware of the truth of all of this. Right? This is just real talk. Life ends. Life ends. And oftentimes that isn't necessarily neat. It doesn't often happen the way that we think it ought to. And I have a lot of really interesting thoughts and ideas and beliefs about death, that it is a loss for this physical life. It is obviously the greatest transition that I know that we take. Of course, I'm sure there are many others. But this transition, right, from physical life to whatever comes next, which is like this merging back with the, with the Creator, with all that is. And so- It's not a complete total death, but it's a death of like the physical material inhabited in this body experience, right? And this is sacred. This is special And so we know the endpoint is inevitable, right? Like, death. Like, this physical life comes to an end. And I've been in deep conversations with loved ones recently about this, and I kept coming back to this fundamental truth where it was begging me to ask myself, and invite those around me, to start entertaining the question. Okay, so the end is, like, inevitable. We know the end is the end of this physical life. So how do I wanna live? How do I want to live? What do I want my life to feel like and look like? Who do I wanna be as the one who gets to lead this life? How do I wanna love? How do I wanna lead? What do I want to leave These are the questions worth asking ourselves because the endpoint is the endpoint, right? And it also has brought me to this question, like what if we have a lot more power and influence over what happens to us than we ever actually commonly entertain And I believe that is really actually a very important question. Because if you believe that you have an influence over how life works for you, you will actually do the work that's required to be the influence that you want to be in your life. And I believe we were born creators. I believe we were born in the image of a creator to create in this life. And when you look at the science, when you look at the evidence of this, of how this is true, when we look, really look at quantum physics, when we start to understand quantum entanglement, when we start to understand that we are the observer and the observed and the agent of what we're observing. I mean, this is fascinating stuff, and it's wild, right? It is a wild journey when you start going into that. And it's also deeply inspiring to me to realize that all of life is feedback. All of life is feedback, information When we can uncouple the judgment and the good, the bad, the awful, the terrible, the blessed, the great, the... When we can just see it all for what it is, which is a signal, a return signal for what we're putting forward, when you start connecting that, you will start seeing life as just one grand unfoldment of massive synchronicity. I think it was Carl Jung who said something along the lines of, like, as you achieve, you know, as you transcend consciousness, levels of consciousness, as you become enlightened, so to speak, you start seeing more and more synchronicities, and this is, like, your signal that you are living in a higher state of awareness. Because this feedback, this, like, these, these series of synchronicities are happening actually all of the time. It is our awareness of them that is the difference. It's just like you're a creator of your life, but if you aren't aware of the fact that you are a powerful creator in your life, do you feel like a creator in your life? Or do you just feel like life is happening to you? I've lived on both sides of this, by the way. Let me just clarify that it really was the ultimate gift of my burnout, was being brought to my knees and realizing I, I can't go on like this. And it wasn't until I realized that there was something deep within me that was actually tapping me on the shoulder saying like, "Love, it was never meant to be this hard, and it doesn't have to be this hard." And so Let it be as easy as it can possibly be for you And figure it out. Like, you know, get to work figuring out what that is. One of my mottos in surgery training specifically, like in my internship and my residency, was like, think smarter, not harder, right? 'Cause it was a hard, grueling work, and it was like I had to continually be devoted to finding ways of working smarter rather than harder in order to get, to get through it, right? And I love that this motto is something that I've really applied, like, throughout my entire life, but now I just ap- I apply it in a different way. It's like, how do I want to live? Truly, what quality of life do I want to experience? And it doesn't mean I have to work harder for it It's like I line up with the things that I want in my life, and I am committed to working smarter, not harder, which means I am leveraging, I am leveraging the science and the understanding that tells me that where I place my attention, where I place my energy, where I put my focus, how I cast my own consciousness, which is the creator, which is the creative piece, that's what I'm actually creating with, is my consciousness. And the action, the behaviors, the, the choices, the decision points all become reflections of this state of consciousness. This is deep, y'all, right? Like, here I went from, you know, the end is inevitable, w- we're all going to die, to like, okay, so how do we wanna live? And then getting really deep with you about what that actually is asking of you. Like, you have been here to be the author of your life, the author and the actor And the audience, right? Like, are we present? Are we actually noticing what is taking place Are we observing? Are we the observer observing the observed who is the agent of the creation that is worth observing that we get to observe? I don't know. It's, like, mega deep. That is some deep stuff. And thrilling. And thrilling because maybe there are so many things in our life that we just accept this is the way it is, and maybe it's just the way it is because for so long we've accepted that this is just the way that it is. I think one of the greatest gifts I've ever given myself was determining that, like, the gift of burnout was that I w- I got to work really figuring out how this happened to me, really seeking to understand And when I did that Things started to massively change in my life, obviously for the better. And It took me to places I never thought I would imagine being. But one of the most fundamental things is, like, I've always been fascinated. I knew how powerful my mind was. I was, I have been fascinated by mindset and the power of thought and the, the power that's unleashed in thinking ever since I was a little girl. I have noticed that thoughts are powerful and influential, and I know that's how I got myself into medical school, how I got myself into college, into graduate school, into medical school, into surgery, and now at this point in my life as an entrepreneur, serial entrepreneur, as a mother As a wife, as a leader, as the person that I keep... Like, I am molding myself continually. I am not done. I am so far from done, right? And I had gotten to this point where I could no longer direct my mind. I could no longer intentionally choose my emotional set point And I got scared. I was loaded with shame. I felt like I was broken. I remem- like, that period of my life at the peak of my burnout is not lost on me. I know that so well. When the, the strategies that have worked for so long just no longer work and you're left thinking, "I must be the problem"- That is a terrible place to live. And If you're there, or if you've been there, or if you don't wanna go back, been there, done that, not going back, it's really important that you also recognize the role of the nervous system in creating baseline states, baseline functioning of the brain, baseline states of the nervous system. Because if you're gonna rely on focusing your mind, and when you lose that capacity to do that on demand, it's because the nervous system is actually chronically strained, stressed. It's in static. It's contracted. You don't have access to the part of your brain, the anterior cingulate gyrus. The part of your brain that allows you to shift thoughts on demand is offline, so to speak, inaccessible. Neurobiologically impossible for you to actually be the creator of your life, and this is what feels so terrible. We are, like, stuck in this victim mode, right? Like, we're just living life. We're just regurgitating life, and we're wondering, "What the heck is wrong here?" Go to the nervous system. Do the nervous system work. It's mission critical. It is absolutely mission critical. You don't have to do it with me. J- just do it. Do it with someone, right? Um, I am in love with what's inside Stress Mastery Academy because it allows people to become the creator of their lives, like you were born to be. It will teach you to rebalance your nervous system. It will teach you to recalibrate your emotional set point. It will teach you to repattern the thoughts and the, and the behavioral patterns that actually live in the mind and the body, right? So it's, it does three things. It rebalances, recalibrates, and repatterns your nervous system, literally rewiring you, right? Shifting the currency because as we shift the state of the nervous system, we shift the current that's running through us, and that is literally magnetic. That is literally measured in millivolts. It is a frequency. It is measurable, and it is emanating from you, and it is determining what is being fed back to you because this gorgeous, beautiful universe is a feed forward feedback universe. It's recursive in nature, but what you're feeding it is not just your thoughts. It's the currency that emanates from you is actually infiltrating the field, and that field returns back to you as a mirror reflecting what emanates from you. Wow Whoa So cool. Best news ever. So I can't say enough about the importance of Stress Mastery Academy. I can't say enough a- about it. Um, if you feel called to it, you'll know. You'll know. And I welcome you with open arms. It is the program that we are bringing to scale in the healthcare space because of burnout, chronic stress is at the root of the instability that's taking place in the healthcare system. And so we're bringing Stress Mastery Academy to that space that needs it so much because, let's be honest, we're all going to need a healthcare system that is stable and viable and adaptive and resilient and able to meet our needs, and let's make sure that we keep having that. But I also want you so well-resourced, right? Not only do I want the medical system well-resourced, I want you well-resourced. Because when you're well-resourced, you become the resourced Massively influential creator of your life, and that is truly what I wanna see for all of us. And so back to this question, which is like, how do I want to lead my life? How do I wanna lead? We're all leading. We're all leading someone. We're all leading people somewhere. We're all leading. And so it's like this massive invitation for us to get curious about what does self-leadership look like? What does it look like to lead myself and my children and my family and my home and my colleagues and my teammates and those around me and my community? Because we are all leading each other somewhere. Where are we leading? Where do we want to lead? What would beautiful, strong gorgeous self-leadership? Like what would excellent self-leadership look like And let's start living it, right? And this is a also equally important. It's not just how do I want to live, getting clear on that, right? Letting that emanate from us, aligning our nervous system so that we can be aligned to these visions, to these goals, to these dreams How do I wanna live? How do I wanna lead? And I think it is really important, these next two questions get overlooked consistently from us, like, big, ambitious souls. We forget these last two, and it's of critical importance that we bring this into the mix. How do I want to feel? How do I wanna feel in my life? I didn't realize I had become addicted to stressful emotional states. And so w- when I wanted to feel good, I almost needed to intervene at, like, a polypharmacy level because I had lost the ability to choose different emotional states on demand Oh, the freedom, the liberation, the agency, the sovereignty. Mm. The true creative power that gets unleashed when we are able to have a level of emotional mastery is par none. Like, this is where it's at. This is part of recalibrating, right? Recalibrating is recalibrating emotional states, choosing a new baseline, and systematically making our way to more renewing, replenishing, rejuvenat- rejuvenating emotional states, right? And so asking ourselves, "How do I wanna feel in my life?" That is the first, most important question. And then if you're feeling like, "Oh, gosh, that's fascinating. This is how I wanna feel," and I keep, I keep noticing, right, feedback, that I'm actually most commonly frustrated, disgruntled, pissed off, angry, disappointed, worried, doubtful, fearful. Whatever it is, those are all on the stressful side of the emotional scale, right? Pessimistic, cynical, disappointed, right? So, defeated, that's a big one. At least, I'd, like, I'm just speaking from my personal experience. Like, these were the ones that I, that, that had become the new baseline. They had become the set point. And all emotions are biochemical signatures, right? There's a biochemical manufacturing thing going on, and that is when those levels shift, this is how you know it's your baseline. As those levels drop, as you move into, as you try to move into different emotional state, the body is signaling to the brain, "Our levels are dropping. The biochemical signature of disappointment is no longer here. Find something to be disappointed about so that we can resume our baseline." Isn't that fascinating? What? Yeah. 80% of the communication that's going on in the nervous system, which is, by the way, the mind-body connection, 80% of that communication is bidirectional, which means the body's actually telling the brain how to behave Fascinating. So helpful to know. And so when we go to work on the nervous system, we actually begin to clear the static. We, we freshen and strengthen this connection, and we allow the body to start metabolizing and literally detoxing from all of the biochemicals, all of the hormones That determine the baseline state so that we can move up, right? Higher order thinking, new emotional states. Now we have new behaviors, new actions, new choices, new decisions that happen just because there's an alignment now between how the brain functions and our emotional states Whoa. Total upgrade. So amazing, so awesome. Ah. Ah, ah, ah. Now you know why I'm obsessed with Stress Mastery Academy. Mm. Total tune-up. Okay, so That's really important. How do I wanna feel? And then start living it. Start living it. And if you can't, if that feels difficult, reach out to me. I'll guide you in the right direction. Is it working with me one-on-one? Is it getting into Stress Mastery Academy? Is it maybe seeing if you're a fit for the mastermind, the Thrive Mastermind? You know, there's a lot of options. So the other piece that's really important here is how do I want to love? How do I want to love on those that are in my life? We do not ask ourselves this question. And so we go through life feeling like we're not loved or we're not lovable or some variation. And the reality is we forgot to bring the love. We forgot to decide how we wanna love and how we wanna be loved. How do you wanna love on those around you? Because you're not... I, I might burst into tears. I can feel them coming Because the reality is, right? I'm not gonna be able to hug these babies my whole life. I'm not gonna be able to, like, nuzzle my little nose into that little, like, n- that little nook in the neck, right, of my little boy, right, forever. I'm not gonna always be able to braid Maya's hair. I'm not gonna be here to hold them, cradle them in my arms, because I'm not gonna live forever And so how do I wanna live now? How do I wanna live now that I have the ability, the physical capacity to hold and love on these babies? And that is why being human is sacred and special. Because that is what we don't get to take with us. The love is gonna join us. Like, the love, the love doesn't go anywhere. The love just amplifies as far as I can tell. But the ability to sniff them and hold them and cuddle them and kiss them and, like, that tactile, this sensation of being alive doesn't come with us This is uniquely human And it actually is that level of love that helps us access new states of desire and actually opens us up to new levels of receiving what it is that we want in this life. Love is a very powerful force. It is the most powerful force that I know of. And so when we ask ourselves this question, how do I want to love, what we're really saying is, like, how am I unleashing this life force energy? How am I accessing it? How am I allowing it to flood into my life? How am I guiding it and directing it? Who am I sharing it with? We are the meaning makers of this life. We are not just the doers of life, we are the being that does, that creates We are the, like that is the gift. And we wall ourselves off. We wall ourselves off from our heart. We wall ourselves off from our power because we think it's protecting us, when really all it's doing is keeping us small Keeping life harder than it needs to be. More contracted than it was ever designed to be. And we are a really gifted generation. We're the generation, I feel like that we are the first ones to realize, to truly have the science that points to us, like, oh my gosh, we are so powerful. The wisdom traditions have been trying to tell us this for millennia. We are so powerful. With your mind, you can purify water. I remember when I was with Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche, and he was telling us to bless our food, to purify all impurities with a blessing. And I thought, "That's kind of crazy." But I did it. I did it. And now science, and there's evidence all around the world of, of, of filthy water being purified in India by people blessing the water If you knew how powerful your mind was, you wouldn't waste another moment of your day squandering it, wasting it. And so I'm here to remind us all that I need the reminder too. I need the reminder too. I'm reminding us we are powerful creators, and so how do we wanna live? How do we wanna lead? How do we want to love? And then start living the answers Mm. I'm gonna get to work on this. This is such a good jour- this is, like, journal prompt central over here. If you're into that kind of thing, if you're into really transforming your mind and aligning your thoughts, your energy, your focus, journaling is a beautiful practice. I wanna leave you with that invitation if that, that so speaks to you. But entertaining the questions alone already f- focuses the mind in a way that it wasn't before, and that is beneficial to you. That is profoundly beneficial to you. So I'm so glad you tuned in to this episode of Dr. Tami Talks. As always, I am on the mission of journeying alongside you into a place where we all thrive and we all rise together. I am so delighted that you are here. Share this with somebody you love. Leave a review on iTunes if anybody still does that. Maybe save this. Come back to this when you need the reminder, because this ends. This is finite. The physical human journey is finite, and it is sacred. And what do we wanna do with this precious life? What are we here to do with this precious life? And let's start doing it. I absolutely love you. Have the most beautiful day
