Perfectionism Isn’t the Problem—It’s a Portal
Perfectionism gets a bad rap—but what if it’s not the enemy? What if it’s actually a misunderstood portal to your deepest truth, your divine essence, and your authentic power?
In this episode of Dr. Tami Talks, I’m sharing a radically compassionate reframe of perfectionism—one that could free you from years of self-doubt, burnout, and pressure to “get it right.”
This conversation will speak to the part of you that’s tired of striving, done with the proving, and so ready to feel whole right now.
You’ll hear why perfectionism is often a spiritual instinct, not a flaw… and how to meet it with love, not resistance.
If you've ever wrestled with your inner critic or felt stuck trying to "fix" yourself before going after what you really want—this is your episode. This is the one you come back to again and again.
Key Takeaways:
- Perfectionism is often rooted in a wound that says “I’m not enough”—but that story is ready to be rewritten.
- The drive to be perfect may actually be a longing for connection with the divine.
- You don’t need fixing. You need reclaiming.
- Awareness is liberation—the moment you see the pattern, you’re no longer ruled by it.
- True self-mastery starts with compassion, curiosity, and the courage to trust who you already are.
Ready to release the pressure and step into your wholeness?

Hello. My goodness gracious. It feels like this episode has been ages in the making. I'm so happy you're here. Welcome to Dr. Tami Talks. You know me, I'm your girl, Dr. Tami. I, um, am laughing to myself. Not an unusual occurrence, but um, the last two times that I have gone to record a podcast, something has happened that the recording didn't come, the microphone wasn't fully connected, so the audio didn't come through, and then it didn't record anything at all. And. Wow. Okay. So I gave it a rest for a minute. I was like, okay, we're putting this aside because life is, there are. Client onboarding. There is a lot of things in the works. My mastermind is doing magnificent things in the space of emotional mastery, self mastery, life mastery. I am obsessed and I've got some other really fun things that I'm rolling out because I am seeing burnout. Like just a massive clip right now. And it makes so much sense and I know that for so many people, they're looking for another avenue. And so I'm in some collaborative relationships that I've been in for a very long time that really are designed to help people pivot into making money online and help people learn how to sort of create this digital. Real estate, right? Like having a presence online and a business that goes with it. So you can stop trading dollars for hours, I mean hours for dollars. You get to stop trading hours for dollars. You get to stop doing more and more for less and less, and you get to pivot to your purpose. You get to put yourself into a position. It's like the real estate market, right? You get in and you just know, or the long-term investment game of any kind, right? It is a long-term investment game and it gets you to the plays where you get to spend less time and make more money. It truly is an inversion of what people are experiencing right now. And I want more people that have this opportunity or know about it, at least know about it. Know it's available to, you know that it's like it is simple. It isn't always easy, right? Just like self mastery. It is simple. It doesn't mean it's easy, but my goodness. When we let it be simple and we do the mindset work necessary, we put ourselves in spaces and we work with people that let it be fun, that let our own process of transformation and evolution into building the life that we love. It gets to be joyful, as joyful can be. Oh. Hallelujah. Amen. Okay. I am coming off my, I'm coming to the theme of today, which actually, um, let's see. I had two different, uh, themes that I was rolling with, but you know what feels really alive for me right now is the topic of perfectionism and I have just like a little bit of a different spin on it. And so I wanna talk about it because I think perfectionism. It is kind of getting a little bit of a bad rap like it's a problem and I am here to invite us to a new relationship with this inclination that we have to be drawn towards perfection and we're gonna just sort of tease apart some of the semantics of like perfect. Right. This aim to get it perfect. Which is rooted in trying to get it right, which is rooted in a wound that says we're not already right. We're not already good enough. We're not alre. Like there's something not all right. And so we become driven to be right and that's the drive to be perfect, right? So can we just be aware of that and get to the root? Of, of, of that and get ourselves in spaces, start doing the inner work that allows us to trust and know that we are more than good enough. We are so valuable. We are some of the one. We are someone because we exist. We are exquisitely valuable and important to all that is. Period. So when we see ourselves cut in cycles where we wanna get it perfect, we wanna get it right, let's just check in. Like this is a real life check-in. Yo, this is a masterclass. I really think that this could change your life big time. I hope you're listening. I hope you're like turning all the other things off. If you can't do that right now. You better earmark this. You better save this and come back to this, my love, because this, this episode, if you struggle with perfectionism, this episode could very, very easily be one of the most valuable things you will ever hear in your life. This could quite possibly free up a good decade of therapy. I'm not even kidding. Whenever we go into therapeutic theorizing relationships, we go in under the premise of we're broken and we need to heal something. What I'm saying runs countercurrent to that. My, what I am saying is, you are not broken. You don't need to be healed. You need to recover. The pieces of yourself that you've written off is not good enough. It's a reclamation of all of you and who you really are. With the understanding like that, like because you are made of the one, there's a perfection that is inherent to you as you are already right now, as it's right that there's no perfecting you, you've already been perfected. We don't journey into self-development and self evolution because we need to, because we're broken. Please like don't even consider journeying with me if you're not willing to make this fundamental shift, and it is this, you are not broken. That there's nothing fundamentally wrong with you, and you want to be on the journey of self-development, self self evolution, and just growth, because you just wanna see what is the potential that's actually within you. How magnificent can this life really be? How good can it get? The better it gets, the better it gets, right? It's like, how can I expand my capacity to receive? How can I allow myself to stand in my bigness, to take up space, to go for my dreams? Let me tap the courage to have the freedom to build the life I want. And when life feels really heavy, we want freedom from, we want freedom from the burden, freedom from the obligation, freedom from the pressure. So much of that pressure is rooted in perfectionism. Am I wrong or am I right? Like, is this landing for you? Because the perfectionism is optional and rooted in a paradigm of thought that is untrue. Unhelpful, downright harmful. Actually, I'm gonna go there. It is harmful to you, right? That is what is burning you out. The work itself of like living this life. Sure, there can be challenging moments, but what what makes it even harder is an adversarial relationship with ourselves. I came across this quote, um. I took it off my fridge, I wanna share it with you. It is by BKS Igar and he is sort of one of the original, um, he's like an OG who brought his style of yoga to the western world and he's really interested in the union of mind, body, soul. I think we can all be down with that. I think we're all realizing that's kind of the ticket. It's kind of what's missing. But he has a quote that's been on my fridge for ages and it's this, the instinct that draws us toward the dream of perfection is really a desire for God and I need it again. The instinct that draws us toward the dream of perfection is really a desire for God. I think this is a phenomenal sentence because it speaks to an instinct, right? Like there's this, this internal natural proclivity to be drawn toward this idea, this dream, this ideal of perfection. It's really a desire for God to know God. And I wanna say, what if it's an invitation? What if your perfectionism could be the opportunity that you take to identify and honor this internal instinct that you have that aligns and. For a taste, a knowing of God and what if that God is within you. What if that God is you? What if you are a divine extension? Of the source of one consciousness, of one energy, of one field, what? What if it's already you and when you surrender to the perfection of this moment to the perfection of you, to the perfection. Everything and everyone around you. Like if you surrender to that for one moment, if you open your mind and your heart and your and your soul to that possibility and you breathe that in, perfection is here for this moment. Nothing is lacking or wanting or. Like it is, as it is, and it is all that it is. Right? Beyond the thinking mind, beyond language, beyond like it is a, it is a almost like an ephemeral, spacious sense of all that is really here. Oh, that you are. And so really this is an invitation for you to become more self-aware of the moments where perfectionism is driving a show or where you have this internal drive to be. Perfect. Because without that level of awareness, without that initial moment of recognition, there is no liberation. Right? Awareness is the greatest liberator. Something tells me that now, with this reframe, with this paradigm shift, you have the opportunity to see your perfectionism. Your drive for being perfect with so much more humanity and compassion and love and kindness and truth and respect and honor than, than has ever been available to you before. And with that, what becomes possible for you? This is a life changing conversation because when you're able to catch yourself in those patterns, the moment you see them, you're free of them. When you can't see it, you are living from it and it owns you. That feels terrible. That feels terrible. I've been there. Oh my gosh. And truly I'm not. I I just recently truly liberated myself from this and I'm sure there are more layers. My friend, my love, I have been working on this. I'm not kidding you, diligently for at least three years when I started to see it show up in my daughter. This perfectionism thing and I was like, Ooh, that is, that is dangerous. I saw it for the first time with loving eyes in someone I like with loving eyes and saw its impact. And then I was able to see that, oh my gosh, I have that too. And it helped me appreciate how this is affecting me. So this is in so many ways life's work. Like this is unraveling decades of conditioning and programming that instilled that drive to be perfect at the pursuit of perfectionism in you. This isn't gonna be one and done right, like you, you are not gonna re-pattern and rewire. Decades. Decades of thinking and neural networks, right? Like, that's not gonna happen. So please elongate your timeline as you do this work like this in so many ways. This is a lifetime. Like this is a journey of a lifetime. As always, if you want help with this right now, at the time of this recording, I do have openings in my one-on-one VIP experience. That package is a phenomenal package. It does include an invitation to the Mastermind, which is an. An exclusive invitation. I'm obviously, it's an exclusive invitation to work with me. You know, I put it out there, there is an invitation, there is an application process. Um, but if this is speaking to you, if you're realizing, oh my gosh, I really like what would change in my life if I had Dr. Tami in my ear on a regular basis. If I had such a close relationship with her, that she understood my lineage, my upbringing, my programming, and she was actively rewiring it, re-patterning it, and recalibrating me. What could I recreate in my life for my children? For my home, for my marriage, for my future relationship, for my business, for my future business, for myself, for the joy of being alive. This is so good. And Dr. Tami land. Oh it is. It is. And you know what makes it so good is because I'm on the journey with you. This is daily work for me. This is da. Like I'm obsessed with this work. I'm obsessed with human potential. I'm obsessed with the human mind. I often joke now that I'm like a subconscious surgeon, right? Like I can pick out these patterns and I can pick out what's holding you back, and I get to help you rewrite it and like shift, shift. What's been holding you back for decades? We get to shift it. Every time we have a touchpoint, it gets to change your life. It's a phenomenal gift. I'm so grateful to be doing this work. I'm obsessed with my work. I'm obsessed with my clients. I'm obsessed with Life Capital L Life right now. It's a phenomenal time to be alive. We are so special like this generation. I'm gonna cry y'all because this generation gets to heal, gets to break free from the paradigms and the thought patterns and the belief systems that have held back our lineage. It is so much bigger than you. It frees you. It frees your children and it frees your ancestors. I've said it before and I'm gonna say it again right now As you are, you are already your ancestors' greatest dream come true. You are. And we're not done yet. And we're not done yet. I absolutely love you. I hope this conversation was helpful if it was. Drop me a message, reach out, share with me. Did this free. You did this, free you from decades did this, free your future, so you get to recreate with something new, the perfection of who you already are, and go forth with that. Knowing that power, that essence like exploding in your heart. No more striving. No more trying. No more like struggling to be something, just surrendering to the magnificence that you already are. Big, big time, big time. I'm feeling it. I love you. Have the most remarkable, fantastic eight. Woo. Maybe we were waiting for this one. Maybe this, maybe, maybe the other ones didn't record because this was the message that had to come out. I'm gonna trust it. I'm gonna trust it. I'm gonna trust me. I'm gonna trust my journey. I'm gonna trust my experience, and I'm gonna trust that you got exactly what you needed. But please do let me know. I'd love to hear from you.
